The Irish Pony Club is a voluntary youth organisation. and is the main organisation providing training in all disciplines of equestrian activities in Ireland for members up to the age of 23. The Irish Pony Club endeavours to promote and encourage horsemanship and loyalty in a safe and fun atmosphere, for all its members and volunteers.
The objectives of the Irish Pony Club are:
To encourage young people to ride and to learn to enjoy all kinds of sport connected with horses and riding.
To provide instruction in riding and horsemanship, and to instil in members the proper care of their animals.
To promote the highest ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty, thereby cultivating strength of character and self-discipline.
To get the most out of being a member it is preferable to own your own pony, though this is not a requirement in order to join the Pony Club. Some of our members don't own their own pony and generally hire one for each rally from the equestrian centre that is hosting it. We are always keen to welcome new members and if you are interested in joining then please don't hesitate to contact us.
Everything that you need to know about the Irish Pony Cub can be found on their website, irishponyclub.ie. Information is constantly updated , all the rules and regulations for each discipline, competition details, changes to schedules, parent’s information etc. Please “like” our new Facebook page as information will be shared in this way also.
Important Changes to Hats approval
From 1/1/2016 Hats with only the standard: (BS)EN 1384 inside will not be approved anymore to compete in any Pony club Competition. So the Hats can be used this year but not next year. It is important when you are buying a new hat this year to check the standards inside. Also keep in mind you need to change your hat in 2016 if you are competing and if your hat Only has the standard (BS)EN 1384 in it. If your hat has SNELL or PAS015 you are ok.
Important Changes to Documentation
Please be advised that under new Department of Agriculture Regulations all premises where equines are kept must now have a herd number. It is the responsibility of the owners to make sure they have all the correct documentation up to date in relation to passports, vaccinations and herd numbers. These must also be available for inspection at competitions. Please check out the IPC Website for further details. Registration forms can be downloaded from the site.
